Una Sonrisa Para Un Niño

It All Began with Profe Chelo, Aurelio López, a beloved teacher in El Burrión who dedicated much of his life to his community.

With his own hands, Profe Chelo built a cardboard sleigh and began a Christmas parade through the streets of El Burrión with a simple but meaningful purpose: to bring joy and hope to the children of his community. Over time, that small Christmas parade became a tradition that continues and grows every Christmas.

His three children, together with the García family, came together to carry on what he had started. As the parade grew, so did the ways they gave back. They began collecting toys, shoes, clothing, food, and other essentials to share with children and families throughout the community.

Inspired by his legacy, the García family took the initiative to create what we now know as A Smile For Children Foundation.

Today, the foundation provides local children with backpacks and school supplies for the new school year to help them feel prepared and motivated to learn.

As our work continues to grow, our purpose remains rooted in the same spirit that guided Profe Chelo throughout his life: a love for his community and a desire to give children a reason to smile.

Todo comenzo con el Profe Chelo, Aurelio López, un querido maestro de El Burrión que dedicó gran parte de su vida a su comunidad.

Con sus propias manos, el Profe Chelo construyó un trineo de cartón y comenzó un recorrido navideño por las calles de El Burrión con un propósito sencillo pero especial: llevar alegría y esperanza a los niños de su comunidad. Con el paso del tiempo, aquel recorrido se convirtió en una tradición que continúa celebrándose cada 25 de Diciembre.

Sus tres hijos, junto con la familia García, se unieron para continuar lo que él había comenzado. El desfile fue creciendo y, con él, también la manera de ayudar. Comenzaron a reunir juguetes, zapatos, ropa, alimentos y otros artículos esenciales para compartir con los niños y familias de la comunidad.

Inspirada por este legado, la familia García tomó la iniciativa de dar vida a lo que hoy conocemos como Una Sonrisa Para Un Niño.

Hoy, la fundación también apoya a los niños de la comunidad con mochilas y útiles escolares para el regreso a clases, buscando brindarles herramientas que los ayuden a comenzar el ciclo escolar preparados y motivados.

Aunque nuestra labor continúa creciendo, nuestro propósito sigue inspirado en el mismo espíritu que acompañó al Profe Chelo durante toda su vida: el amor por su comunidad y el deseo de regalarles a los niños una razón para sonreír.
